Obituary for Virginia Katherene "Nanny" Honeycutt (Chandler)

Virginia Katherene Honeycutt, 77 years of age, of Pampa, quietly left this life on Monday, July 26, 2021, to be eternally free of the debilitating illness that has caused her so much pain and suffering as she is now walking hand in hand with Christ. She was born on February 26, 1944, to Jess and Virginia Chandler in Amarillo, Texas.

Pampa was home to Virginia most of her life, for the exception of three short years while her family lived in Colorado and she attended school there; however, they returned to Pampa, and she was able to graduate from Pampa High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation, she was fortunate enough to marry her one and only – the absolute love of her life, Wendill F. Honeycutt. Together they created a life of love, laughter, and family. Always willing to help in whatever capacity necessary to run the household, Virginia had been employed by several of Pampa’s well known old businesses over the years such as A & W, Heard & Jones, Burger King as well as the Salvation Army. Her friendly smile and jovial disposition could be easily recognized from any of these positions.

Virginia had a couple of pastimes such as various crafts and crocheting, but nothing compared to the passion she held for her family. Simply spending quality time with them, especially her grandbabies and great grandbabies (who meant the world to her) was her top priority and number one joy in life!

Although ailed with a cruel illness, Virginia never lost her zest for life, jolly disposition, and bubbly personality which will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was anxiously greeted with open arms by her loving husband of 49 years, Wendill F. Honeycutt; her parents, Jess and Virginia Chandler; a brother, Gus Chandler; a sister, Jesse Jean Chandler and a great grandson, Damien Brown.

She has left behind to carry on her life stories, two daughters, Belinda Garner and wife Ally of Pampa, Starla Phelps and husband Jonathan of Pampa; a sister, Kayron Matthews of Clarendon; 11 grandchildren, Eric Brown and wife Amber, Jacob Honeycutt, Caeleb Phelps, Leo Phelps all of Pampa, Nathaniel Gonzales-Sharp of El Paso, Kayla Beistle and husband Tre, Hannah Phelps, Amberlie Hernandez all of Pampa, Adriene Yearwood and husband Astin of Lefors, Katzen Warren and husband Robert of Lefors, Jasmyne Mosley and husband Justin of Amarillo and 9 great grandbabies.

Virginia will be available to pay last respects on Wednesday from 3 to 8pm, Thursday from 9 to 8pm and Friday from 9 to noon at Winegeart Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 3:00pm, Friday, July 30, 2021, at Highland Baptist Church, 1301 North Banks Street, Pampa, TX 79065 with Brother Paul Nachtigall officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

If donations are a preference, the family suggests they be made to Highland Baptist Church, 1301 North Banks Street, Pampa, TX 79065 in honor of Virginia.
