Obituary for Shirley Ann Cummings (Farber)

Shirley Ann Cummings, 73 years of age, of Claude, peacefully passed from this life into the arms of her precious Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2021 in Amarillo, Texas. She was born on June 18, 1947 to Hershell and Oleta Farber in Sayre, Oklahoma.

After graduating from Pampa High School with the Class of ’66, she attended the Pampa College of Hairdressing and received her cosmetology license. On April 15, 1980, she married her best friend and soul mate, Dewey Cummings. Being the oldest of three children, she had a natural leader and motherlike quality about her. She was always very aware and informed of the goings on around her. Due to advanced medical issues, Shirley moved into the Claude Nursing Home in 2007 and through her amazing social skills, very easily adapted and accepted the new surroundings as her home. She absolutely loved participating in activities – especially bingo and working jigsaw puzzles. She stayed highly active, not only in her own daily routines, but also with the other residents as well as the staff. She displayed genuine care and concern for them as if they were her own family. Sharing her nieces and nephews’ birthdays were extraordinarily important to her; however, as it got more difficult for her to attend the gatherings, she mastered how to facetime her family in order to still be present! If something was important to Shirley, she put her whole heart into it, and politics was no exception – she was extremely passionate about it. Shirley loved big and in turn, she was easy to love back! She will be missed by so many who loved her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and on January 3, 1995, her world changed forever as she lost the love of her life, Dewey.

The ones left to cherish her memories are her two younger siblings, Larry Farber and wife, Kathy of Amarillo, Judy Kent and husband Billy of Fairfield, Texas; five nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews. Although Shirley wasn’t blessed with children of her own, she certainly bragged about her nieces and nephews as though they were hers!

Celebration of Life Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum with Chaplain Chris Kutin officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
