Obituary for Rose L. Sheehan

Rose Lee Sheehan, 81 years old, of Pampa, peacefully fell into eternal slumber while family sat at her side in the morning hours of Tuesday, October 6, 2021, at her home in Pampa, Texas. She was born on January 20, 1940, in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Delbert Moody and Violet Brown Mooneyham.

The phrase, “dynamite comes in small packages” describes Rose perfectly! Although she may have only been 4 foot nothing, she had a larger-than-life presence and the feisty attitude to back it up! If you tried to push her…she would shoot those steely eyes at you that screamed “Don’t mess with me” but on the other hand, she had such a love for her family that in the midst of her anger and that stare, she would end her conversation with “I love you” and “sleep with the angels.”

Rose had such a way of taking care of things, that although they grew up poor, the four kids never knew it, as they had everything they needed and always had a hot meal to enjoy while sitting around the dinner table as a family. Unbeknownst to the kids, she may have been to garage sales and bought the nicest looking clothes she could find or bought gifts all year to give them numerous presents beneath the tree each Christmas. She loved holidays and most typically tried to make each one very special by her over-the-top decorations. Rose enjoyed quilting and had many talents in crafts. She built a rock wall that is still standing in her back yard.

Being boldly competitive, Rose hated losing at card games or dominoes and when she did win, she had a special little giggle. It was that same competitiveness that helped her to fight the ravages of cancer since 2017. She beat it the first time and when it came back, she fought it head on, but now she’s no longer sitting at the card table, but at the table with the King of Kings!

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Deral Moody; sisters, Daisy Eileen Porter, Lilly Elizabeth Jergenson; a grandson, Brandon Dean Franks; two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Breane Dehls, Jesse Matlock; former husband and the father of her children, Bobby Dale Matlock, and husband Bill Sheehan.

She has left to treasure her many attributes, two sons, Russell Matlock and wife Dorla of Edmond, OK, Curtis Matlock of White Deer; two daughters, Lesia Unruh and husband Mark of Mound Ridge, KS, Shelly Yoakum and husband Chad of Skellytown; a brother, David Moody and wife Stella of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Fern Brady of Texas; ten grandchildren, Christopher Dehls, Christian King, Jerad Matlock, Joshua Matlock and wife Christina, Kristen Thurman and husband Jake, Garrett Travis and wife Patience, Colton Matlock and wife Ashley, Dakota Goen and husband Payden, Dusty Matlock, Logan Matlock; 17 great-grandchildren, Layne Dehls, Sierra Matlock, Jayda Matlock, Abby Matlock, Becca Ellis, Hope Doyle, Arreanna King, Logan King, Keaton Helton, Shiloh Goen, Violet Goen, Everett Goen, Addison Matlock, Ashton Matlock, Brodhi Travis, Paul Reimer, Hadlee Reimer; two great-great-grandbabies, Gabriella Matlock, Madison Ellis and a host of extended family members.

Rose will be available to pay final respects on Saturday, October 9th from 9 until 8; Sunday, October 10th from 1 until 8 and again Monday from 9 until Noon at Winegeart Funeral Home.
