Obituary for Petra Ybarra Rubio

Petra Ybarra Martinez, 86 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, passed into Heaven’s beauty, Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Burleson, Texas with family by her side. Petra was born February 23, 1937, in Lott, Texas to Dorotea Ranjel and Francisco Ybarra.

Moving to Pampa in 1964 with her husband Charles, Mrs. Martinez spent her life working for both her family and her community. Together they were to proud owners of Charles’s Upholstery Shop for 40 years where they worked side by side. When not working in the shop, Wal-Mart was where she spent 20 years working until her retirement. All of this while raising a family of 13 children, to say the least, she was busy.

Petra was a woman of tremendous faith and was a very involved member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where she was active in the Cursillo Movement, and strove to share her faith with all who knew her. Her personal ministry of sewing blankets for the homeless was just an extension of her faith. When enjoying her own time, she loved reading, listening to music, dancing and painting.

Greeting her at Heaven’s gates, are her parents; husband, Charles Martinez; a son, Patrick Francisco Martinez; grandson, Nathaniel Matthew Powell and son-in-law, Gene Powell.

She will be missed by the rest of her family. She is survived by eight daughters and four sons, Teresa Rodgers and husband Kenny of Burleson, TX, Silvia Vargas and husband Jr. of Pampa, Martha Martinez and husband Tim Ward of Clarkston, WA, Dianna Powell of Hot Springs, AR, Helen Bridwell and husband Jerod Chalise of Pampa, Anne Carmona of Las Vegas, NV, Laura Helfer and husband Dusty of Pampa, Maggie Martinez of Crowley, TX, Charles Martinez, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Martin Martinez of Pampa, Paul Martinez of Los Angeles, CA, and David Martinez and wife Tonya of Pampa. Mrs. Martinez also leaves behind four sisters and two brothers, Mary Ybarra of San Angelo, Lucy Sierra of Amarillo, Isabel Tapia of Sanger, CA, Julia Gray of Hemet, CA, Joe Ybarra of Lubbock, Jesse Ybarra of Wichita, KS. Her legacy will continue to thrive in her 35 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to St. Gabriel’s Hospice of Fort Worth, and most especially to Denise Holbrook, RN, as well as to Esmeralda Ramos for their wonderful care and support.

Mrs. Martinez will be available for those who wish to pay their respects on Friday, March 17th from 2 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary being recited beginning at 6 p.m. at Winegeart Funeral Home, 303 N. Frost St, Pampa.

Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 810 W. 23rd, Pampa, with internment following at Fairview Cemetery, 1560 N. Duncan.
