Obituary for Patsy Ruth Ledford (McKeen)

Patsy Ruth Ledford, 71 years of age, of Lefors, Texas, joined her beloved husband on Monday, March 13, 2023, when Jesus took her hand and escorted her home. She was surrounded by her family while quietly listening to “Amazing Grace”. Patsy was born on March 31, 1951, in Pampa, Texas, to Emmett and Rheba McKeen.

Patsy was raised in Pampa, attended Pampa schools, and worked as a pump mechanic for Celanese for 19 ½ years before her forced retirement due to medical reasons. She married her kindred spirit and best friend, James Ledford, on April 17, 1973, in Pampa. That’s where it all began! Quite the pair, they were able to balance each other out and sometimes he could calm her fierce red-head temper! Patsy was a very cheerful and happy person always wearing her bright smile, didn’t cast judgement on anyone and wasn’t easily offended; unless perhaps one of her kids was involved, then the attitude was unleashed. That included not only her natural born children, but all those she took in under her wing as well. She and James were referred to as the “Gray County Orphanage” as their doors were always open to anyone needing a home. Once she took you in as her kid, you remained in her family no matter what.

Her love of crafting led her to believe that her dream job would’ve been in a high-end department store, wrapping Christmas gifts and hand making different bows. She took great pleasure and pride in her ceramic painting, sewing, making flower arrangements and basically anything that involved her creativity to emerge. Pasty had a knack for preparing amazing meals that the family loved. She was an amazing mom, wife, friend, and an absolute hoot! Her zest for life and incredible love for her family will be missed by her “kids”.

Upon arriving at Heaven, she was greeted by her parents; her husband, James Ledford; brother, Billy McKeen; her infant baby; a grandson, JW Browning and great-granddaughter, Audrey Grace Rose.

Her enormous love for many things will be cherished by her sons, Jay Ledford and wife Monica of Pampa, James Ledford and wife Ashley of Amarillo, Jeff Mayfield and wife Danielle of Pampa; daughters, Angela Browning and husband Roger, Diana Crotwell all of Lefors; 11 grandchildren, Stormie Smith and husband Coby, Harley Rose and husband Kole, Lacy Scott, Lynn Herron and husband Sam Mejia, Whitney Browning, Rheba Browning, Hunter Ledford, Rowdy Bebout, Hadley Bebout, Caleb Ledford, Emmerson Ledford; two great-grandchildren and her partner in crime and fur baby, Abby Gail.

If donations are a preference, the family asks they be made to the Diabetes Foundation of the High Plains, 1400 S. Coulter, Amarillo, TX 79106-1786, ATTN: Dr. Alison Lunsford, MD in honor of Patsy.

She will be available to pay respects from 2 to 4 pm on Wednesday, 9 am to 8 pm on Thursday, and again from 9 am to noon on Friday at Winegeart Funeral Home, 303 N Frost Street.

Celebration of Life Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2023 at The Carpenter’s Church, 639 Barnes Street with Pastor Ben Corbitt officiating assisted by Brother Jim Sinyard. Burial will immediately follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
