Obituary for Nelda Jean "Meme" Kennard (Kale)

Nelda Jean “Meme” Kennard, 89 years of age, of Borger, Texas, formerly of Skellytown, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022, in Borger. She was born on February 7, 1933, in Athens, Texas to Robert and Clydeal Kale.

Previous to her residing in Borger, Nelda had lived the majority of her life in Spearman and Skellytown. She had worked numerous years as a dispatcher for the Hansford County Sheriff’s office before becoming a familiar face at the Skellytown Taylor Mart as manager.

Nelda married Lovell Kennard on March 17, 1979, and they shared many years together, taking their grandkids under their wings. Being a typical grandmother, she spoiled her grandkids, and she was quick to act as their staunchest defender and protector. From their youngest years until her health no longer allowed her to, she remained their most loyal and faithful sidekick.

She most generally wore an infectious smile, was quick to reply with her funny wit, often times a little bit ornery, and sharp as a tac. Although she had been wheelchair bound for many years, she found that crocheting, reading, and coloring were excellent tools and hobbies for finding solace and passing her time. A definite junk food junky, Nelda had chocolates of all kinds on hand at all times! Her genuine love and concern for others will be missed by so many who knew and loved her.

She was greeted with open arms by her husband, Lovell Kennard; parents, Robert & Clydeal Kale; and two daughters, Kathy McDade and Robbie Lee Tice.

Meme leaves behind to remember her devotion and love, three grandchildren, Kory Tice and wife Kara of White Deer, Kala Griffith and husband Michael of Skellytown, Mikah Tice of Skellytown and four great-grandchildren, Breklyn Tice, Brantley Culwell, Joe Scruggs, and Emery Griffith.

Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, in the Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum with Brother Rob Lackey officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their precious Meme to Winegeart Funeral Home.
