Obituary for Michael Smith

Michael Robert Smith, 53, of Pampa, Texas, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday August 27, 2022. He was born in Canandaigua, New York on January 6, 1969, to parents Robert Smith and Elaine Steagall.
Mike seemed to be a man destined for the road, as his travels as a truck driver took him all over the country, and even after disability made him give up his career, he was always ready for the next trip to see over the next horizon. Travelling with “Big Mike” as he was known to most everyone, was entertaining since driving a truck and listening to the radio for 20 years, made him a virtual fountain of rock and roll song lyrics. If it was a song from 1950 to current times, he could probably sing along and know all the lyrics. If the drive just happened to pass a casino, well you can bet he was first in the door to hit the slots. Michael liked sports but was not a consistent follower. He preferred the excitement of seeing champions crowned in the Superbowl, World Series and Final Four.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew King.
Big Mike’s gregarious personality and sense of fun will be missed by many family members, friends, and acquaintances, most especially his son Kieran Michael Smith and wife, Paola of Selma, Texas; parents, Elaine and Bruce Steagall of Canandaigua, New York; and very special friend, JoAnn Adams of Pampa, Texas.
The family has chosen a private inurnment in New York and no local services will be held. His friends and family have entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home. Please visit Big Mike’s Book of Memories at www.winegeartfuneral.com to leave messages of sympathy and condolences.
