Obituary for Michael Bruce Jenkins

Michael Bruce Jenkins, 65 years of age, of Pampa, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Pampa, after a battle with COVID. He was born on August 6, 1956, to Robert and Louise Jenkins in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

After graduating high school, Michael fell head over heels for Merry Wardlaw and on December 23, 1976, they married in New Port Richiey, Florida. Then, on April 16, 1979, he joined the United States Army and faithfully served his country for four years before being medically honorably discharged. While on vacation visiting Michael’s family in Pampa, he was offered employment, which would allow Merry to stay home with their three girls. So, in 1996, they packed up and made the journey to Pampa. He had worked most recently as a maintenance man at the Combs-Worley building.

Michael was fond of old cars and guns; he had enjoyed camping and fishing, but he spent countless hours honing his God given talent of wood carving. He could carve such realistic creatures it was hard to determine the wooden one from real life. Another of his all-time favorite ways to spend time was with his grandchildren. He loved taking them to the movies or just any means of spending quality time with them. Although he was a pro at picking on those he loved until they saw red and felt like screaming, his antagonizing ways will certainly be missed by all whom he knew.

He was greeting with open arms in heaven by his loving parents, Robert and Louise Jenkins.

Those whom he has left to remember his love and laughter are his best friend and wife, Merry Jenkins; three daughters, Amanda Whinery, Whitney Garcia and husband Tommy, Raeghan Jenkins all of Pampa; two sisters, Angie Sempsrott of Florida, Carol Dout and husband Tom of Clarendon; ten grandchildren, Carl, Keaton, Jace, Brandon, Caidyn, Zaylon, Drixtyn, Laithyn, Brexlie, Haziley; four great-grandchildren, Hazel, Jericho, Tonya, Saphirra and one on the way.

Should you wish to honor Michael with a donation in his memory, the family suggests they be made to a favorite charity.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
