Obituary for Maynard Gaylon "Bo" Applegate Jr.

Maynard “Bo” Gaylon Applegate, Jr., 76 years old, of Pampa, Texas, left this life to enter into the presence of the Lord while surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Bo was born one of 13 children to Maynard Sr. and Minnie Applegate in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Shortly after finishing the fifth grade, Bo quit school to help in the raising of his 12 siblings and to work on the family farm where he continued working the land until he moved to West Texas to continue farming. He married his sweetheart, Gloria Garcia, on August 27, 1967, in Petersburg, Texas and eventually he retired and they moved to Pampa.

Having a special interest in vintage cars, Bo enjoyed attending cars shows, collecting models and replicas of his favorites and he had an extensive collection of John Deer tractor memorabilia. In keeping with the love of old things, he quite frequently made all the garage sales looking for treasures of value because you just never know what you could find at near to nothing and sell for a good profit!

A few of his favorite hobbies and pastimes were watching old western movies, listening to the old-time country music, fishing anywhere he could drop a hook, and just simply being outdoors. It did his heart good when friends would come to visit, and they could sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Bo was blessed with the gift of gab and “could talk the horns off a billy goat”. Of all his hobbies and interests, nothing compared to his love and adoration of family time. Countless hours were spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. One of Bo’s most anticipated activities was Friday night marbles. He and family would gather and play Aggravation and although, under normal circumstances Bo was a gentle and loving man, the gloves came off and he was ruthless when it came to marbles!

He was greeted into Heaven by his parents; two brothers, Gaylon Applegate and Kenneth Applegate; four sisters, Francis Hobart, Katy Holmes, Gladys Walker and Edna Fox and a grandson, Patrick Nichols.

He leaves behind to laugh at his antics and unique personality a wife, Gloria Applegate of Pampa; son, Mark Applegate and wife Shaunda of Panhandle; three daughters, Patsy Bridwell and husband Brian, Brenda O’Dell, Amy Nelson all of Pampa; two brothers, Chris Applegate and wife Kathy of Levelland, Rudy Applegate of Littlefield; two sisters, Judy Brown of Amarillo, Margaret Scott of Hereford; 15 grandchildren, Matthew Applegate, Regina Hild, Jamie Applegate, Camery Applegate, Jorden Winegeart, Frank Nichols, Renee Nichols, Heather Mendoza, Kayla Likes, Michael Likes, Bo Likes, Eric Likes, Roy Nelson, Loretta Barbosa and Jacob Nelson and numerous great-grandchildren.

Should donations be preferred, the family suggests they be made to the American Cancer Society, 1300 Summit Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76102 in honor of Bo.

The family will be hosting Celebration of Life Memorial Services at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Carpenter’s Church, 639 Barnes Street, Pampa, TX, with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
