Obituary for Marie Burns (Thomas)

Marie Burns, 66 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, fell into glorious slumber to awaken at her Savior’s side in the early morning hours of Monday, April 17, 2023, in her home with her daughter, Ashleigh, at her bedside. She was born on August 31, 1956, in the old Worley Hospital in Pampa, Texas to Charley and Gladys Thomas.

A lifelong resident of Pampa, she graduated Pampa High School with the class of ‘74’ and then attended Clarendon College and received her associate degree in ‘76’. Shortly afterwards, she married Dale Burns on February 25, 1977. Throughout her life, she had worked as a housekeeper for individuals for over 30 years, did some contract labor, cleaned, and painted properties for Action Realty, but her main job was being an amazing housewife and mother. Although somewhat hardheaded at times, she was quite entertaining as she pulled off her pranks and jokes – unless perhaps you happened to be on the wrong end of her pranks.

Blessed with such an easy-going spirit, she was a joy to be around. Having enjoyed many things, a few of her all-time favorite pastimes were playing 8 liners, dancing the waltz, playing Pokeno, tending to her garden and cooking amazing food. She and Dale even hauled a trailer to auctions and sold various meals and snacks to the crowds. She wasn’t afraid to tackle adventure, she was a straight shooter, and nothing came before her family. Marie doted on Ashleigh until her grandkids came along then they got all her attention!

Her arrival into Glory was anxiously awaited by her beloved husband, Dale; her parents, Charley Allen and Gladys; and siblings, Wesley Thomas and Nelda Allred.

She leaves to cherish her love and orneriness to her only child, Ashleigh Hayden and husband Aaron of Pampa; brothers, WD Thomas of Pampa, Ricky Thomas of Amarillo and another brother; three grandchildren, Austin Hayden and wife Morgan of Amarillo, Alexis Hayden of Pampa, Addisyn Hayden of Pampa and a plethora of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 20, 2023, at The Carpenter’s Church, 639 Barnes Street with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

Should donations be preferred, the family suggests they be made to The Carpenter’s Church, 639 Barnes Street, Pampa, TX 79065 or to Make A Wish of Amarillo, 2607 Woflin Ave. PMB #292, Amarillo, TX 79109, in honor of Marie.
