Obituary for Linda Ann Winkleblack (Peacock)

Linda Ann Winkleblack, 73 years old, of Midlothian, formerly of Pampa, is strolling the golden streets of Heaven with her beloved son, Doug, after suddenly succumbing to the dreadful COVID on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the hospital in Mansfield. She was born on November 7, 1947 in Pampa, Texas at the old Worley Hospital to O.E. and Juanita Peacock.

After graduating Pampa High School with the Class of ‘65’, Linda married Wendel “Wink” Winkleblack on July 16, 1965 and they had celebrated their 52nd anniversary when he passed away in 2017. Due to Wink’s longtime commitment to the National Guard Reserves, Linda had 42 years of being a military wife under her belt. Her dedication to organizations she was passionate about was quite astonishing. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Pampa Chapter #65 for 49 years and had served as Worthy Matron twice, but it didn’t stop there, she was also Mother Advisor over the Rainbows in the 60’s as well as a member of the Rainbow Board and we mustn’t forget that she was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW too.

Being a lifelong resident of Pampa and a hairdresser for about 50 years, she knew an astonishing number of people and in turn, they all knew her. Linda knew no strangers and loved to visit with others, but it wasn’t just empty talk, she actually cared about others, how they were doing and could remember the names of everyone she spoke of. Linda’s heart was enormous, and she truly loved her hair clients, in both life and death, as she honored many of her patrons by fixing their hair for their funerals. As an extremely thoughtful and giving soul, she always kept a stock of little trinkets and treasures in her car so when she happened across children or even an adult, she was prepared to hand them a gift ~ for no particular reason other than she maybe felt they needed a pick-me-up or a small piece of joy to brighten their day. Linda would also write in cards and mail out to family, kids, friends and those that she knew were struggling and needed to hear a few kind words. Linda’s strong Christian faith and extremely generous heart are beautiful qualities have touched so many lives and she will be truly missed.

She was greeted into heaven by her parents, Juanita L Wood, stepfather, Doc Wood; father, O.E. Peacock; her husband, Wendel “Wink” L. Winkleblack; son, Douglas Walton Winkleblack; brothers, Charles R. Peacock, Orval Peacock; brother-in-law, James Winkleblack; uncles, George Goin, Cecil Dittmeyer; aunts, Geneva Dalton and husband Paul and their son, Bob; Martha Hilton and husband Jack, and her special great-aunts, Minnie and Marie.

She has left behind a vast family to carry on her love and traditions, a son, Wendel Winkleblack, Jr. and wife Cher of White Deer; daughter, Wendy Henderson and husband Mark of Midlothian; sister, Rhonda Strnad of Pampa; sister-in-law, Pat Winkleblack of Amarillo; aunt, Lois Dittmeyer of Pampa; grandchildren, Ashlee Davis and husband Keenan, Chad Winkleblack and wife Lindsey, Chelsie Parsley and husband Brandon, Makenna Henderson, Hunter Henderson, Ame Noordenbos, and Audie Winkleblack; great-grandchildren, Bree Ryan Davis, Scott Parsley; nephews, Tommy Winkleblack and wife Melissa, Leroy Evans, Russell Strnad, Zachary Strnad; nieces Kelly Mayberry and husband Wendell, Elizabeth Strnad, Paula Winkleblack and partner Kaycee Hooper, Cathy Peacock-Potts; great-nephews and great-niece, Damon Campbell, Ryan Mayberry, Aaron Mayberry, Kyra Safranca; cousins, Suzie Jones and husband Jerry, Johnny Goin, Cheryl Hilton Laufer, Becky Hilton, Martha Ann Newman, Jackie Daughtery-Nolan, Jack Hilton II, Chris Phillips, Larry Brawley, Joy Dalton, and numerous others.

The Family will host a Gathering of Family and Friends on Friday evening from 6 pm until 8 pm at Winegeart Funeral Home.

The family will hold a Private Celebration of Life Funeral service with Celebration of Life Graveside services open to the public at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Memory Gardens Cemetery officiated by Pastor Jerry Lane.
