Obituary for Lesley Wayne "Les" Whitson

Lesley Wayne “Les” Whitson, 60, of Pampa, unexpectedly slipped from this life into eternity on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, in Pampa. He was born in Pampa, Texas on December 2, 1960, to John Carney and Freeda Arlene Whitson.

As a lifelong resident of Pampa, Les attended and graduated from Pampa schools. While attending high school, as a part of the DECA program, he began working part time for Titan, now known as Hunting-Titan, and had remained there for 43 years. Les married Lillian Thomason on June 9, 2006, and all together they had shared 21 crazy, fun filled, and wonderful years together. The duo spent countless days camping at Lake McClelland where Les loved to fish but wouldn’t clean the catch nor would he eat them.

His happy-go-lucky nature, infectious laugh and awesome smile were just a few of the personality traits that made him so easy to like. He was just plain fun! Lillian’s friends would have girl’s night out before bowling and he loved to join them, but one of his very favorite pastimes was hanging out with family and friends. Les also enjoyed watching Nascar, football (the Dallas Cowboys in particular) riding motorcycles and trains, but especially steam engine trains. He was an extremely loving husband, stepfather, and friend that will be missed by many!

Those who preceded him in death are his parents, John Whitson (10/9/2006) and Freeda Whitson (12/4/1999); a baby sister, Joanna Lynn Whitson (7/15/1959-7/18/1959); maternal grandparents, William Christian and Viola Bybee; paternal grandparents, Milton and Elizabeth Whitson.

He leaves behind to remember his bright and special smile, his wife, Lillian Whitson of Pampa; two stepsons, Ronald Thomason of Texline, Keith Raines of Borger; a stepdaughter, Laura Johnson of McLean; a granddaughter, Jacqueline “Jac” Altis; a brother, John A. Whitson and wife Lillian; numerous cousins, Teresa and Jeff Prince, Ashley and Justin Wadsworth, Sydney Wadsworth, Mason Wadsworth, Brooklynn Wadsworth; his special girlfriend, Dee Rogers of Pampa, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who reside in Soper, Oklahoma, Skellytown, Texas and Jal, New Mexico.

Celebration of Life Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at The Carpenter’s Church with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. Masks will be provided. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
