Obituary for Kevin Lee Farrington
Kevin Lee Farrington, 67 years of age, of Skellytown, Texas, drew his last breath this side of paradise while family sat at his side on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. He was born on September 28, 1955, to Vernie and Beatrice Farrington on an airbase in England, where Vernie was stationed.
After graduating from Canadian High School, Kevin moved to Pampa and eventually made his way to Skellytown in 1986. God graced him with a second chance and on February 16, 1991, he married his true soulmate, Sandra Nelson while gathered at his mother’s home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Deemed a jack-of-all-trades over the years, he dabbled in many things such as an ambulance mechanic and maintenance man, he contributed to the rebuild of Fritch after the tornado ripped through, worked in the oilfield and he owned his own business for a bit. Kevin took great interest in carpentry and welding because it allowed him to use his creative imagination. What some might perceive as hoarding – Kevin saw the opportunity to repurpose for practical use (such as the old bus seats he used as bar stools in his home). His interests in art and creativity allowed him the capability to build anything from practically nothing – there was always a use for everything and nothing went to waste!
Definitely one of God’s unique creations, Kevin had a way of aggravating and picking on those he took to…if he was quiet around you, he probably wasn’t really fond of you. His dry sense of humor and love of pulling pranks kept life interesting, to say the least. He had a keen love and respect for all creatures and in his mind, all creatures had a right to live, so he literally collected animals. His children grew up living in a “zoo” and surrounded by fish aquariums filled with rare and exotic aquatic life. One of his oldest pets, being a 27-year-old turtle, feels quite at home amongst his plethora of succulents and plants that Kevin so successfully grew.
Among being a perfectionist with a photographic memory who could grow anything, collected all types of creatures, could build something from nothing, Kevin loved relaxing with a fishing pole in the water and was an amazing cook! His interesting life and love of others will be missed greatly.
He was greeted in Heaven by his father, Vernie; brother, Mark Farrington; a stepfather, Merle Kramer; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Loretta Nelson and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Nelson.
Those whom he left to continue caring for his zoo and plethora of plants are his wife, Sandra Farrington of Skellytown; mother, Bette Kramer of Skellytown; three children, Andrew White and wife Melissa of Canyon, John White and wife Tracie of Wichita Falls, Brandy Horath of Durant, OK; brother, Marvin Kramer and wife Sherry of Skellytown; sisters, Rita Kramer of Skellytown, Kathy Curuth and companion Glen Carpenter of St. Johns, AZ, Cyndy Smith of Kileen; sister-in-law, Nancy Farrington of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Damen, Logan, Lindsay, Grayson, Hailey; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Dawson; nephew, Nathan Farrington and wife Jaime of Phoenix, AZ; three of his closest friends that he really considered as family, Glen Jameson of Pampa, Mike and Chelly Helms of White Deer and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members who will all miss him dearly.
Should donations be a preference, the family suggests they be made to Pampa Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS), PO Box 2095, Pampa, TX 79066-2095 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 1535 West Loop S, Houston, TX 77027, in honor of Kevin.
Kevin will be available for final respects on Thursday, April 20th from 9am until 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home, 303 N. Frost Street.
Celebration of Life Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, April 21, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Skellytown, 306 Roosevelt Street with Pastor Carter Pirtle officiating. As per Kevin’s wishes, following the services he will be cremated, and his remains buried alongside his father and stepfather in Edith Ford Canadian Cemetery. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
