Obituary for James Walter Skaggs III

James Walter Skaggs III, 49 years old, of Amarillo, peacefully took Jesus’ hand into eternity in the early morning hours of Monday, January 31, 2022, in Amarillo with his family at his side. He was born on August 1, 1972, to Sharon and James Skaggs, Jr. in Rolla, Missouri.

Following his high school graduation, James attended West Texas University and had attained his associates and was currently working towards his bachelor’s degree. Having a special adoration for animals, especially wolves, being a Wildlife Biologist came very naturally to James. He absolutely loved helping and being an advocate for animals. Before attaining his degree in animal biology, he attended culinary school in Dallas and was an amazing chef!

When not researching and saving animals, James enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling to his favorite destinations to state and national parks, Ireland and Scotland, messing around with his buddies and being an extremely loving and protective brother and uncle. His love, loyalty and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Thompson.

James has left his father, James Skaggs, Jr. of Missouri; sister, Christian Jones of Amarillo as well as his niece, Conlie Jones of Dumas to cherish his tender and loving ways.

In honoring James’ wishes, there will be no services scheduled, and his family will distribute his cremains as instructed. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
