Obituary for Dell Warren (Carter)

Dell Carter Warren, 88 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on the morning of Friday, April 21, 2023. She was born on March 6, 1935. Dell was born one of eight children to Harry and Rainey Carter in Hollis, Oklahoma. She deeply loved and carried a high admiration for both her parents. Following the death of her father while she was just a young girl, she became quite close to her mother and had wonderful stories to share of their adventures together. Even though times were difficult, she relished fond memories and loved to share them with her family and friends, always with a huge smile on her face. She carried a great love of the Lord and her church family. Dell could recall the names of every teacher, Sunday school teacher, and preacher she ever had.

On June 25, 1954, she married B.W. Warren in Hollis, Oklahoma and soon afterwards they moved to Pampa, Texas to work and raise their daughters. When Sunday mornings rolled around, Dell was sure to have daughters, Sherry and Debbie, in church. Following BW’s passing in 1995, Dell began her working career at C.R. Anthony’s Clothing Store, then at Hub’s Bootery for several years, before managing the S & H Green Stamp Store for many years until it’s closing and finally, her last job was at Heard & Jones Drug Store in downtown Pampa. Hence, many people referred to her as “the little black-haired lady at Heard & Jones.”

Always having such a deep love for her family, there was no better way to spend her days than together. She was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments. It was such a treat for them to visit her and want to play together. Her love ran deep as did theirs for her. Each one has their own fond memories, fun stories, and favorite food she cooked for them. Her passing will leave a great hole in our hearts and lives but will be a bright light in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.W.; a daughter, Sherry Olson; parents, Harry and Rainey Carter; brothers, Everett, Leonard, Donny, Benny and sisters, Linnie and Winnie.

Her loving survivors include, a daughter, Debbie Hill and husband Aaron who adored her; a sister, Eva Jo Miller; grandchildren, Jennifer Montgomery and husband Jerimiah, Jeremy Hill and wife Jenifer, Julie Cain and husband Ted, and Kyle Olson; great-grandchildren, Tyler Montgomery, Jacey Montgomery, Caylee Adams and husband Sterling, Kaleb Born, Rylee Hill, Dakota David, Hayden Hill, Courtney David, Kynzlee Martin, Briggs Martin, Beckett Hill; great-grandchildren, Alan Born and Alexis Born and many nieces, nephews and family members who will miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank the Pampa Nursing Center staff for their love and care as they truly loved “Miss Dell”.

Should donations be preferred, the family suggests they be made to her beloved church home, Kentucky Avenue Church of Christ, 1612 W. Kentucky Avenue, Pampa, TX 79065 in honor of Miss Dell.

She will be available to pay respects on Monday, April 24th from 4pm to 8pm and again Tuesday, April 25th from 9am to 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home, 303 N Frost Street.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Kentucky Avenue Church of Christ with Pastor Scott Futrell officiating. A burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
