Obituary for Cora Sue Harrison (Gray)

Our much-loved Mother and Nana Sue, Cora Sue Harrison, 84 years of age, took the hand of Jesus to her eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, while peacefully resting at her home in Pampa, Texas. Her pain is gone forever!

Born in St. Louis, Oklahoma, on June 30, 1938, to Buddy and Juanita Gray, she was one of five children. Following her graduation from Lefors High School, she enlisted in the US Air Force. She proudly served her beloved country from 1956 through 1959, during which, she was in the 3743rd Squadron and flew amidst Flight W29. During her service, she traveled to many countries resulting in some very interesting stories she often shared with her family.

Never idle, Sue kept very busy with various chores and hobbies such as sewing, painting, cooking, cleaning and she loved working in her yard; however, her greatest joy was being a mother, wife and Nana Sue. Nothing brought her more contentment and happiness than to have quality family time.

Sue was employed by the Texas Highway Department as a maintenance foreman and not only did an excellent job but took great pride in her section to keep it clean and safe. She saw such beauty in God’s handywork through the wildflowers and scenery. Her hard work and dedication were recognized in 1987 when she was presented an award from Lady Bird Johnson for highway beautification.

Mom taught us how to be strong during difficult times through seeing her gracefully overcome her own adversities. She was a cancer survivor that remained strong, brave, amazing, faithful, fearless, driven and of course, stubborn! We had the most amazing teacher. She often reminded us how important is to love the Lord, to maintain an education and to always work hard. In her words of wisdom, “This world does not owe us anything so succeed in yourself.” No words can ever describe how so very proud we are of you mom, and we are beyond thankful that God gave us you.

Nana Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Robert ‘Sid’ Harrison; parents, Buddy and Juanita and a brother, Gary Gray.

Those who are left to remember her strength and tenacity are her two daughters, Martha Earhart of Arlington, Beth Cox and husband George of Pampa; one granddaughter, Casey McClinton and husband Beau; three great-grandchildren, Michaela Portillo and husband Andrew, Cameron McClinton and Dylan McClinton all of Midland; two sisters, Molly Rainey of Amarillo, Carol Lee of Pampa and a brother, Steve Gray.

We would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the Accent Home Health and Hospice staff for the loving and compassionate care given our loved one. You’re an amazing group and we pray God blesses you as you have blessed our family.

The family asks that if donations are a preference, that they be made to Winegeart Funeral Home New Building Fund, 303 N. Frost, Pampa in memory of Nana Sue.

The family will be hosting a private Celebration of Life Memorial service at a later date. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home..
