Obituary for Cody Don Russell

Cody Don Russell, of Pampa, Texas, only 35 years of age, fell asleep next to his loving wife and awoke gazing at his Savior’s face in full glory on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at his home. Cody made his grand appearance into this world on March 16, 1987, in Pampa, Texas to Kelly Don Russell and Tamra Ludell Smith.

For the most part, Cody was raised in Pampa; however, he also lived in Lake Dallas and graduated from Lake Dallas High School in 2006. Upon mentioning his name, the first thing that comes to mind was his love of laughter and uncanny ability to bring a room to tears with joy. Very rarely was there ever a serious note to Cody, he couldn’t even take a “normal” picture – they’re all goofy!

Cody was blessed with a deep love for music, allowing him to be a talented songwriter and singer. He and brother, Chris, could “drop a beat” and rap on a whim about any subject! From the time he was in diapers until the last song he wrote about his loving wife just hours before his passing, his mind was always churning a song!

After dealing with his own trials and tribulations, Cody took his renewed faith and strength to help others as they began their steps to recovery at Adult & Teen Challenge of Azle, Texas for five years. He loved the Lord and wanted nothing more than to teach students to rely on Christ and to turn their addictions over to Him.

Cody was a dedicated soldier for Christ, an amazing Brother Bear as he never gave up on his siblings (although he relentlessly picked on them), and a wonderful husband and dad that was very protective over his family. He cherished family gatherings and enjoyed cooking for everyone…and of course, he was the life of the party and tons of fun!! His bigger than life personality will be greatly missed by so many who loved him.

He was greeted at Heaven’s Gates by his maternal grandfather, Gary Jan Smith as well as his paternal grandparents, J.Q. and Helen Russell.

Left here to reflect on and laugh at Cody’s shenanigan’s are his precious wife, Jessica Russell of Pampa; maternal grandmother, Edna Smith of Pampa; his momma, Tamra Smith of Denton; dad and bonus mom, Kelly Russell and Thresa of Weatherford; two sons, Ryland Russell of Corpus Christy, Bladin Romero of Pampa; three daughters, Anniyah Russell of Corpus Christy, Jessa Romero of Pampa, Shyla’Lynn Gross of Stephenville; six siblings, Christopher Jan Russell, Landon Griffith, Garrett Griffith all of Denton, Amanda Hicks of Pampa, Jake Fincher and wife Caitlin of Weatherford, Stephanie Hunt and husband Jerrod of Abilene. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and close friends.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Briarwood Full Gospel Church with Pastor Ed Sattesahn of First Assembly of God Church and Cody Joplin, a counselor of Adult & Teen Challenge officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

If donations in memory of Cody are a preference, the family suggests they be made to the Adult & Teen Challenge of Azle, 1099 Flat Rock Road, Azle, Texas 76020.
