Obituary for Cherry S. McCarthy

Cherry S. McCarthy, 56, of Pampa, Texas, celebrated Christmas with her Savior after peacefully passing from this life into eternal rest on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24, 2022. She was born the baby of three children to Ronald and Janice McCarthy on November 23, 1966, in Pampa.

The McCarthy family welcomed their baby in 1966, then moved to Orange, Texas for a stint, and returned home to Pampa in 1977. Cherry attended Pampa schools and graduated from Pampa High School with the class of ‘85’. Following graduation, she attended Clarendon College and received her Associates Degree. Over the years, she had worked as a salesclerk at various retail stores such as Gordon’s Jewelers, The Hollywood Dress Shop, Ninny’s Bucket and Wal-Mart. Once diabetes limited her, Cherry kept herself busy by volunteering at The Meredith House, patiently knitting and crocheting hats and scarves to donate to The Harrington Cancer Center, attending WMU at Central Baptist Church, and successfully participating in Weight Watchers. As she aged and diabetes become more difficult to manage, Cherry could be referred to as a homebody and took solace in reading her nook while wrapped in her favorite fluffy blanket. Never having children of her own, one of her greatest joys was filling Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes for the kids at Christmas! Her love of conversation (as long as she was doing the majority of the talking) and her generous heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was greeted into Heaven by her parents; paternal grandparents, Cotton and Juanita McCarthy; maternal grandparents, Jay and Elsie Green; stepfather, Gary Brewer and a great niece, Ember McCarthy.

She is survived by a brother, Terry McCarthy; sister, Lori McCarthy; nephew, Chase McCarthy; great-nieces, Wynter McCarthy, Aryanna McCarthy; great-nephew, Cyrus McCarthy all of Pampa as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Honoring Cherry’s wishes, no services will be held. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

Should a donation be a preference, the family asks they be sent to Central Baptist Church, 513 E. Francis Ave., Pampa, TX 79065; The Diabetes Foundation of the High Plains, 1400 S. Coulter, Attention: Allison Lunsford, MD, Amarillo, TX 79106-1786 or online at www.dfhp.org or to the American Kidney Association, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, Maryland 20852 or online at www.kidneyfund.org in memory of Cherry.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Pampa 911 dispatcher, Pampa Fire Department, Pampa Police Department, EMS services and the Pampa Regional Medical Center ER staff for their diligent assistance in the efforts of saving Cherry. We cannot thank you enough for the kindness, care and compassion given not only Cherry, but our family as well. God bless each of you!
