Obituary for Billy Wayne Watson

Billy Wayne Watson, 83, of Hereford, Texas, peacefully fell into eternal slumber while surrounded by those who loved him dearly on Monday evening, August 16, 2021, at his home in Hereford. He was born on August 28, 1937, to George and Bluebell Watson in Hereford.

After traveling the world working from Australia to Texas, approximately 24 years ago, Billy moved back to Hereford purchasing the land that he built his business on. As owner and operator of Longhorn Feedlot Construction, he was constantly working on ways to improve any and every aspect of the process. Billy (in every sense of the word) was a businessman and even his relaxation and downtime was doodling and drawing ideas for improvements. Being of a very conservative nature, Billy never threw anything away, much to the chagrin of his family. When speaking, Billy was known to be quite the orator of colorful language and his bright and beautiful blue eyes would let you know just what he was feeling. Family and friends will long have memories of his sense of humor and have stories to tell about him to the younger generation. Not getting any younger, he has been training and mentoring Marcos Bryan as General Manager of Operations, as well as Juan Angel Camargo as Onsite Supervisor to be prepared to take over one day. Billy had a particular way of doing things and was very adamant about maintaining equipment, making sure things were fixed and repaired properly, running at 100% to promote job safety not to mention – job performance!

Leading a rough and rugged cowboy life, Billy tried to carry that persona; however, he truly had an extremely soft and giving heart. He has helped an immeasurable number of people through the years in any way he could. His kindness and prideful personality will be terribly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Willis Watson and Donald “Boots“ Watson.

Those he has left behind to remember his prideful yet tenderhearted ways are a son, Mike Watson and wife Mandie of Whitehouse, TX; daughters, Misty Watson Scribner and husband Jeff of Copperas Cove, TX, Pam Watson VanMeter and husband William of Tyler, TX; his grandchildren, Andrea, Christopher, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Amy, Brittney, Amber, Bo, Madalyn, Bailey, Coleman and Josh; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; two nephews, Drew Watson of White Deer, Trent Watson and wife Missy of Pampa and his two right hand men that he trained to take over his business as well as his caregivers, Marcos Bryan and wife Danielle of Hereford, Juan Angel Camargo and wife, Maria Luisa Valles and their son, Jonathan, whom Billy really took a liking to.

The family would like to extend their endless thanks to Marcos Bryan and Aunt Rose for their loving and continuous care or their loved one.

Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Roberts County Cemetery, 1020 US Highway 60, Miami, TX 79059 with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home

Should donations be a preference, the family suggests that memorials be made in honor of Billy to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79101-3722.
