Obituary for Barbara Ella Martinez (Sandefur)

Barbara Ella Martinez, 71 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, gracefully accepted Jesus’ hand and walked with Him into eternity on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at home while family sat at her bedside. One of nine children, Barbara was born on March 12, 1951to William and Dorsett Sandefur in Ranger, Texas.

Being part of a large family, Barbara learned at an early age how to tend to others needs and lend a hand when needed. This was a trait that remained prominent throughout her life. Having been blessed with a strong maternal instinct, she felt it her mission to be a mother – and she was the BEST! To her, DNA meant nothing and under her wing, everyone was treated the same way…with absolute love. Barbara was the cornerstone, the family rock in whom everyone could turn to and completely depend on in any situation. Besides caring for others, Barbara’s other love was cooking, but for an army, she never could cook a simple meal. In her defense, she was always prepared to feed anyone of her “kids” at any moment. Her bubbly demeanor, motherly love, wisdom, as well as her big hugs will be forever missed by so many. Your mission is complete momma, go rest now.

Anxiously awaiting a rather large reunion, she was greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband, Guadalupe Martinez; three sisters, Betty Sandefur, Ella Hazard, Joyce Thornton; four brothers, Raymond Sandefur, Clyde Sandefur, Richard Sandefur, William Sandefur; sisters-in-law, Alice Hernandez, Sara Martinez and an ex-mother-in-law, Nell Foster.

Those of her precious family that remain to carry on her legacy are nine children, Mac Martinez and wife Carrie of Pampa, April Martinez of Pampa, Joe Martinez and wife Esther, Ricky Martinez, Guadalupe Martinez, Jr and wife Alice, Margie Martinez, Lisa Lopez and husband Willie, Irma Martinez, Jeannie Martinez all of Plainview; brothers, John Sandefur of Pampa, David Sandefur of Odessa; brother-in-law, Juan Martinez and wife Elaina of Hart; the gleam in her eyes and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Andrew Wamser, Cheyenne Williams, Janae Williams, Ronnie Martinez, Nathan Martinez, Jaden Martinez, Cash Martinez, Evan Martinez, Johnny Joe Hernandez as well as many, many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a niece whom Barbara played a major role in nurturing, Kay Collis of Midland and her children, Heather Jones, Crystal Vallez, Erin Black; a special friend and confidant, Jacky Goldsmith of Pampa as well as a plethora of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family will be hosting Celebration of Life Memorial services at 5:00 pm, Friday, April 8, 2022, in the Gathering Space at First United Methodist Church with inurnment to take place at a later date. They have entrusted the cremation care of their precious loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

Should donations be a preference, the family suggests they be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Barbara.
