Obituary for Amber C. "Granny" Walker (Collis)

Amber C. “Granny” Walker, 78 years of age, of Pampa, Texas, made her grand exit from this life on Sunday, February 13, 2022, in Pampa with family at her side. She was born on January 28, 1944, in Pampa, Texas, following a terrible blizzard to Loyd and Laverne Collis.

Granny had been raised in White Deer and graduated from White Deer High School in 1962. She had moved away for a short stint; however, she moved back “home” in 1975 and resided in Pampa and White Deer since then. She had been a longtime employee of Natural Gas Pipeline as a field booster operator as well as an animal control officer for the City of White Deer.

Growing up on a farm, her love of animals started early with a variety of pets including a skunk named Stinky. She never met a dog she didn’t like – even ones that bit her. Not only did wounded animals find her, but wounded people as well. She was known to have taken in many “strays” and made them family. Her rough and tough exterior hid one of the largest marshmallow hearts. Loyal to a fault, she could always be counted and depended on whatever the situation. Whether you needed a good home cooked meal, a big hug or wise advice you only had to call on Granny, Mom or Auntie Am; however, you knew her. You could depend on her to be ready with any and all of the above, and even a good joke! Her unique powers of observation always seemed to help her know exactly what you needed.

Her uncanny ways and straight forwardness made lasting impressions on lives wherever she went…if you met her, you definitely remembered her. She was important to so many in various capacities as the family glue, matriarch, cornerstone, mom, granny, mentor, teacher, and faithful friend. The benefactors of all her knowledge are her family and her lessons will continue on through them. Family was her pride and joy to which she loved unconditionally. Granny’s wit, bluntness and fierce love will forever be missed by those whose lives she has touched.

Those who awaited her arrival were her loving husband, Charlie Walker; parents, Loyd and Laverne; brother, Bobbie Collis and her baby sister, Louise Collis.

Left to laugh at her shenanigans and cherish her memories are a daughter, Amber DeLynn Dempsey of Pampa; granddaughter, Cami Culpepper and husband Matt of Albuquerque, NM, two great-granddaughters whom she adored, Molly and Eli; son, Bo Dempsey and wife Lynn of Duncan, OK; grandchildren, Ceressa Burns of Pampa, Amandia Serna and husband Dylan of Sicora, NM, Dillion Wallace of Pampa and brother, George Collis and wife Margie of Princeton, TX.

The family asks that in place of flowers, please make a donation to P.A.W.S., P.O. Box 2095, Pampa, TX 79066-2095 or to a charity of your choice in honor of Amber.
