Obituary for Akeem Jamal "AJ" Cotton

Akeem Jamal “AJ” Cotton Perry took Jesus’ hand into Glory at the tender age of 5 years old, Friday evening, October 29, 2021, following a horrible accident in Pampa, Texas. He was born on July 11, 2016, to Amunique Cotton and Keith Perry in Pampa.

AJ was an extremely happy kindergartener with no worries in the world other than the typical crisis every 5-year-old boy experiences such as, where he might have misplaced his two cell phones or perhaps his nerf gun bullets? He loved playing with toy guns and Spiderman was the coolest Superhero by far! Not one to be shy, AJ would seek out the attention of a camera and even perfected his own pose. Born with golden hair and the most beautiful brown eyes, AJ was very unique and knew he was special. He never met a stranger as he enjoyed talking to anyone and although he was small in stature, he left a lasting impression. AJ was so full of love for others, he often asked to open the sunroof of the car to wave “hi to the people”. AJ’s joy and zest for life will be deeply missed by his family and the many lives whom he has touched in his short but unforgettable 5 years.

Awaiting his arrival with open arms into heaven were his grandpa, Augusta Wilkins; grandma, Jessie Dell Cox; grandmother, Tammy Cox; great aunts, Bertha Dowdy, Gussie Cox and great uncle, Michael Cox.

Left to remember his bigger than life smile are his father, Keith Perry of Lawton, OK; mother, Amunique Cotton of Lawton, OK; brother, Ashtyn Cotton of Georgia; sister, Artrazia Williams of Pampa; grandma Keywanna Perry of California; aunts, Donna Kay Williams, Anna Hunnicutt, Doris Young all of Pampa, Amorle Wilkins of Lawton, OK, Tiffany Williams, Shona Dorsey, Anistazia Grimes all of Pampa, Corissa Burnley, Sherri Lincoln both of Lawton, OK, Kaliyah Brown, Ashlynn Perry both of California; uncles, Bobby Dorsey of Pampa, Randy Cox of Amarillo, Rudolph Proby of Pampa, Kane Pugh of California and many cousins and extended family.

AJ will be available to pay respects Thursday, November 4th and Friday, November 5th from 9am until 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Mark CME Church, 406 Elm Avenue, Pampa, TX with the Priest King Billy Ray Woodard officiating. Burial will follow services at Fairview Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their precious loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home. Those honoring the family as Pallbearers are Marquez Boyce, Bobby Dorsey, Jayquan Lincoln, Kenneth Adkism, Edward Briley.

Should donations be a preference, the family suggests they be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 1535 West Loop S, Houston, TX 77027, or online at www.stjude.org in honor of AJ.
